Course Units

Unit 1: Partial Fractions, Logarithms, Functions, and Limits

Topics Covered: Introduction to polynomials, rational fractions, proper and improper fractions, resolving into partial fractions with applications in chemical kinetics and pharmacokinetics, fundamentals of logarithms including properties, characteristic and mantissa with pharmaceutical applications, real valued functions and their classification, and the concept of limits and continuity with definitions and examples.

Unit 2: Matrices and Determinants

Topics Covered: Introduction, types, and operations on matrices, transpose, multiplication, determinants with their properties, minors, cofactors, adjoint, singular and non-singular matrices, inverse of a matrix, solving systems of linear equations using matrix method and Cramer’s rule, characteristic equation, roots of matrices, Cayley–Hamilton theorem, and applications of matrices in solving pharmacokinetic equations.

Unit 3: Calculus – Differentiation

Topics Covered: Explains the basics of differentiation, derivatives of functions and constants, product rule, sum and difference rule, quotient rule (without proof), and practical applications in problem-solving.

Unit 4: Analytical Geometry and Integration

Topics Covered: Introduction to coordinate geometry including signs of coordinates, distance formula, slope of a straight line, conditions for parallelism and perpendicularity, slope-intercept form, and applications; introduction to integration with standard formulas, rules, substitution method, partial fractions method, integration by parts, definite integrals, and applications.

Unit 5: Differential Equations and Laplace Transform

Topics Covered: Defines order and degree of differential equations, equations in separable, homogeneous, linear, and exact forms with applications in pharmacokinetics; introduction to Laplace transforms with definitions, properties, transforms of elementary functions, inverse Laplace transforms, Laplace of derivatives, and applications in solving linear differential equations, chemical kinetics, and pharmacokinetic problems.
